Kinsmen Lutheran Church is located in the Greenwood Forest neighborhood in the Northwest Houston area. We seek to inspire every generation to experience and share God’s grace in Jesus Christ.

Summary of Position

Kinsmen Lutheran Church’s Youth Minister works alongside the Pastor of Discipleship to provide leadership in Kinsmen’s Youth Ministry for students in the 6th – 12th Grade. This position seeks to connect members of the community to ministries of the church.

Qualifications

We seek a person of faith with integrity who loves God and God’s youth, is proactive, responsible, and fits into the culture to which we aspire in this staff. This culture can best be described as collaborative, hard-working, creative, and committed. Skills in administration and building relationships are critical. Working knowledge of Lutheran Christian tradition is preferred. Personal resilience and a servant’s heart are vital, as is openness to the diversity of our context. The ability to speak some Spanish is a plus.

Outline of Responsibilities

Youth Ministry Role

  • Responsible for leading regular gatherings and ministries for youth and their families that help them grow as followers of Jesus such as Confirmation and High School gatherings.
  • Shares direction of Milestone Ministry for 6th through 12th Grade students.
  • Organizes and encourages participation in service projects, retreats, camps, community events, congregational events, and summer trips for Middle School and High School youth.
  • Organizes events, workshops, or service projects for youth and parents of youth who live in the surrounding community.
  • Shares direction of the Scouting P.R.A.Y. courses with the Director of Children’s Ministry and Outreach and Pastor of Discipleship.
  • Shares direction of Camp Hope with the Director of Children’s Ministry and Outreach and Pastor of Discipleship.
  • Ensures compliance and completes paperwork necessary to create a safe and loving environment where students can grow in their faith.
  • Creates and works within an approved budget for Youth and Family Ministries.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with the leadership and congregation.
